For the XIX edition of Versiona Thyssen, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum’s biannual competition inviting emerging artists and designers to reinterpret works from its collection, we developed a visual system built around the idea that versioning means making something your own.
Inspired by paint-by-numbers, the identity starts from an existing artwork and leaves space for each person to complete it through their own use of colour. Jan van Eyck’s Annunciation Diptych became the basis of the main campaign poster, while Ernst Ludwig Kirchner’s Junkerboden under Snow shaped the gala poster. Outlines, numbers and unfinished compositions turned both works into an open system designed to invite transformation rather than impose a single style.
